On this site, you will find most of your questions asked. Tomacor, Inc runs a training school and apprenticeship program to not only get the State-mandated training to get your inspection license, and also the advice and guidance to get your own business off the ground.

Tomacor’s inspection course gives you 80+ hours of training (the State requires 60 hours). At the end of our class at the Illinois Inspector Training School, we administer a State-mandated exam. If you pass this exam, you are then allowed to sit for the State exam. We give you the signed, sealed letter that the State requires for you to sit at the exam.

According to the most recent Home Inspector Candidate’s Handbook, this State exam is $125.

If you have any questions, please feel welcome to call the office at 312-475-0835.

We offer Continuing Education courses that fill the state requirements for continuing education for home inspectors as well as keep inspectors informed about new trends in the topic areas.

We currently offer two continuing education courses. Each course is worth six hours of state continuing education credit on October 12 & 16 2008 — from 8am until 2:30 pm (with a thirty minute break, lunch provided).

Course descriptions follow below for each course. In order to register, call the Tomacor office at 312.475.0835. Please specify which course you are interested in: what you demand is what we will offer. Thank you!

Illinois Property Maintenance Standards: An Overview of the International Property Maintenance Code and its Relationship to Illinois Home Inspectors
Home inspectors within the state of Illinois are looking at buildings that will fall under this code’s influence more than any other single code or standards text. The beauty of this code lies within its simplicity, requiring construction, analysis, insight and judgement from each building inspector. Specific subject areas will include: common construction definitions; existing construction general requirements; light, ventilation and occupancy limitations; plumbing facilities and fixture requirements; mechanical and electrical requirements; etc.

    Existing Residences Minimum Standards
This class is designed to familiarize and in some cases reinforce the state of Illinois home inspector’s knowledge of minimum requirements for residential occupancies. The classroom discussion will focus on the city of Chicago’s Minimum Standards for Existing Buildings. Emphasis will be placed upon Chicago’s standards due to the sheer number and volume of buildings that are covered by these standards in the state of Illinois. In addition, classroom presentation will emphasize minimum residential construction standards for existing buildings which are directly applicable throughout the state of Illinois.

All student materials will be provided to students three days to one week in advance of the scheduled class date, and students may pick up their materials at the Tomacor office. Please call the office to let personnel know that you will be coming to get your materials. The fee for continuing education courses is as follows: $150 per class, $100 per class for IITI graduates (with certificate). $10 discount for group enrolls or if you enroll in both classes.

Buyer Beware: Unsold Homes Are Often ‘Re-listed’

It’s a story on Real Estate agents and sellers who ‘list’ and later ‘re-list’ their house on services such as the MLS. Real Estate agents and the MLS are in business to help buyers and sellers navigate often complicated property transactions. It makes you question who is in business to serve whom if you can’t trust the ‘listing date’ provided by someone who is in business to help buyers access information.
