Toddler Falls From Second Floor Window
According to NBC Chicago a toddler fell from a second story window. Luckily, the child was okay and was only treated for cuts to the face, but this incident could have been tragic for the family. The part of the article that caught my eye (as a home inspector) read:
he family recently moved into the residence, which did not have screens on the windows, according to police.
Chicago standards are clear! You must screen your windows. (Chicago Building Code 34(13-196-037)537,560)s Screens help keep bugs out and toddlers in and should not be disregarded.
Developers and landlords need to be held accountable for keeping their buildings up to code. Health and safety precautions can not be ignored.
How many children will be injured this year from windows without screens? All of these accidents are preventable. I’ll donate a day anyone wants to drive around and quantify the many building doors and windows without screens. Accountability is key in putting an end to incidents such as these.
